As it is Ladies Lotto's goal to empower ladies via a strong base, we're hosting a networking and benefit event to support these women. Come for the open bar but stay for the discussion with the women of World Financial Group. They'll be dishing on wealth management; how to get it and how to keep it.

It assembles probe-worthy components but unless you delve into each one, it can really seem about nothing at all. It's alchemy. We've turned nothing into something. Something brilliant. Something like the moon.

Art Jump at the MoMA

Before going to the Ladies Lotto benefit on Monday night (and I hope you'll all be there!), stop by the MoMA for a little art, liquor and jumping!

Next Monday (12/8), Allison Reimus, of Jumping in Art Museums, is organizing a giant art jump at the MoMA. Her blog which features pictures of people jumping in front of pieces of art. So why not join in, especially since the MoMA is staying open until 8:45 and all us working people can go.

She's asking people to start jumping en masse at 6:30 in front of the Pipolotti Rist exhibit. The rest of the museum is open, but she figured that Starry Night will already have enough crowding.

Word on the street is there’s also going to be a cash bar and the first 600 people who come for the evening event get a free day pass. Would love to see a bunch of well dressed, successful women show up on their way to benefit (if you know what I mean).

For the third installment of ALL CIRCUITS ON, we’re giving the evening over to the artist, author, and teacher Paul Ryan. Ryan spent four-and-a-half years studying in a Catholic monastic order before going on to work with Marshall McLuhan from 1967-68. He began experimenting with video during this period, and this led him to theorize about the impact it would have on art making, society, memory, relationships, utopia, religion, and the environment. What Ryan recognized was not just the rise of a new medium or technology, but the dawn of a new electronic culture.

Tonight’s topic will be “Threeing,” the yoga of relationships Ryan developed using video during the 1970s, a “three person solution to relational confusion.” Remember the popular late-70s megahit THREE’S COMPANY? The video world of “Threeing” could well be what that reactionary series was reacting to, a Me-Generation rebuke of communal thinking and living. We’ll use that as a counterpoint to ground Ryan’s thinking in the context of early video and his participation in the pioneering media collective RAINDANCE.

Organized by Rebecca Cleman (EAI) & Andrew Lampert (Anthology).
Works to be screened include:
Paul Ryan: RITUAL OF TRIADIC RELATIONSHIPS (1971-76), 12-minute excerpt, video. Documentation of participants using dynamic sound and movement techniques to illustrate Ryan’s theory of triadic behavior. These are anything but boring clinical experiments.
Raindance :THE RAYS 1970, 24 minutes- or less, video Including Frank Gillette, Paul Ryan and Michael Shamberg with Allen Rucker and John French. Passing the camera around “like a joint,” the members of RAINDANCE theorize on the nature of television and alternative communications systems. The title refers both to Point Reyes and to the broadcast TV signals of a nearby transmitter that caused “rays” to distort the picture.

Since the program launched in 2001, SWY has assisted thousands of women with cancer nationwide. The organization has received recognition for its accomplishments in publications such as Lucky, Glamour, and Real Simple among others.

Given the first verse of the poem, artists Charles Harbutt, Joan Liftin, Jeff Jacobson, Naho Kubota, Suzanne Opton, Rebecca Norris Webb, Sylvia Plachy, Alex Webb, and Lucille Fornasieri-Gold selected their own works in visual response. Both individually and as a collective, Song of Myself allows us to see our value in this world and to consider the impact of action and inaction as a means to greater consciousness.
