Spanish Orgasm Video: Driving Voters to the Polls

The Socialist Catalonian Party in Spain is causing a stir with this "orgasm" commercial made to drive voters to the polls.  Watch the video below!

The commercial depicts a woman having just voted turned on to the point of orgasm. It's causing a fuss from both the right & the left in Spain. Some say it's derogatory towards women. What do you think? Offensive, funny, empowering?

Frankly, I think this video is smart and a more empowering look at women as a driving force at the polls, along with making voting far more appealing... Creative concepts like this should be executed more in an effort to reach non-voters.

The big question to me is: Where are the senior citizen volunteers who usually work the polling stations?

Countdown to 11/4 - #3 Vote However You Like

Although the seventh-grade students at Atlanta's Ron Clark Academy aren't old enough to vote in this election -- or 2012 for that matter -- they're already getting involved in the process. Inspired by T.I.'s Whatever You Like, they created a pro-voting song stating the issues, touting candidates and encouraging everyone to get out and vote.

The kids even got a spot on CNN! Here, they discuss the concept for their song and give a live performance:

Countdown to 11/4 - #4 Your Vote is Your Voice

A few days ago I spoke with a friend who told me his father wasn't voting. When I asked why his father wasn't voting his response was "my dad isn't voting for anyone because neither candidate appeals to him." Also, his father cited the future of Israel as one reason he would not vote for Barack Obama. I found this to be somewhat perplexing and well, pretty prejudiced. So what if Obama was Muslim? He'd still be American; in his post he'd still have to put the country and its international relationships before his religion. How could his highly-educated, physician father make such a statement? Hadn't he read up on the issues and checked the facts?

Later, we got into a heated discussion about why people are voting in this election. Somehow my friend deduced that people who vote find one issue and stick to it. For most, voting is a complex issue; it's more than punching a hole, filling in a dot or flipping a lever based solely on one issue you care about.

I'm voting because:
  • Every woman has the right to govern her own body.
  • Unjust wars should not be fought on the taxpayer's dime; as corporations that deal in death profit off the blood of young men and women.
  • All children deserve an education that is truly equal.
  • Everyone deserves comprehensive health care.
  • The country that spends the most on HIV/AIDS prevention in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and the Third World should have its own official HIV/AIDS agenda.
  • Our retirement accounts and social security must stop be raided by greedy traders and government officials.
  • The only Maverick I care to know was played by Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
Why are you voting?

Countdown to 11/4 - #7 No on Prop 8 = Yes to Equal Rights

What's the big deal about Gay marriage? Conservative Bible thumpers argue once men start marrying men and women start marrying women, we'll all want to marry goats. Maybe some special toe tapping, intern soliciting members of the conservative regime are into that sort of thing but the rest of us just want equal rights for EVERYONE. If the people who want to lead us are pro-family, they need to accept loving families in any which way they come.

Here, your average Joe (he's not a plumber) and plain Jane define what saying yes or no on Prop 8 means:

Vote no on Prop 8; Gay people should be able to get divorced just like 50% of the straight population.

The More You Know: Gay was a term initially applied to hetero men (womanizers) and women (prostitutes).

Countdown to 11/4 - #9 He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

In July 2008, Barack Obama gave a historic speech at Germany's Brandenburg Gate. Subsequently, John McCain attempted to show him up by visiting a German restaurant in German Village, Ohio. Conservatives lauded McCain's trip as a major coup and blasted Obama for daring to take his campaign outside the United States. Somehow an earnest visit to an ally was not supposed to hold a candle to a Disneyfied experience. No dice.

This month Economist.com embarked on an experiment; revising the rules of the American electoral college to allow the world to determine the next president of the United States. 9,875 global electoral college votes are up for grabs in this online poll. Some of the results were shocking; McCain is the front-runner in Iraq. However, Barack Obama has garnered the lion's share of the 9,800+ votes. Perhaps if McCain's strategic team had the same creativity as Senator Obama's, he'd be as popular as his opponent is across the globe.
