Flashback: Fade Into You

1994's hit "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star

Lead singer Hope Sandoval was the perfect girl to represent the 1990's. Her hair parted in the middle, baby doll dresses and boots were straight out of the pages of Sassy Magazine! Mazzy Star was apart of California's Paisley Underground music movement. Love Hope Sandoval!!!!

Social Media Connects Continents

Social media freaks like me are gearing up for Social Media Week taking place this year from February 7 to 11. It's an annual international event full of seminars, workshops and networking events covering all facets of social media including consumer marketing, mobile technology and Facebook basics.

If you're not a techie, marketing maven, communications buff, or Twitter addict then this probably doesn't excite you much. However, one of the most incredible things about social media is its ability to connect people who live in other states, countries and continents...much like we do here at Ladies Lotto. To illustrate this point, Ngozi Odita, founder and owner of SocietyHAE.com, is hosting a dope event during Social Media Week: "This Is Africa… How Music and Social Media Are Re-defining A Continent."

“This Is Africa… How Music and Social Media Are Re-defining A Continent” will look at how Africans are using social media to market their music and connect with the world. It will feature live performances and a multimedia presentation on how social media and music in Africa are helping to re-shape and re-define the continent. Social media has been a means for people to see Africa beyond the negative images seen in the media: war, sexual violence, AIDS, corruption and poverty. The artist community has been able to communicate with the world and challenge our perceptions via music and and culture.

We don't often think about how much of our lives and thought are shaped by our social media experiences whether it's news, music, commentary but it has become a way of life and an agenda setter. (Note how much of the news is from blogs and social networks these days.) This event highlights social media at its best...when it's community building.

Check out the event details below and register here:

This Is Africa…How Music and Social Media Are Re-defining A Continent
Monday, February 7
6:30-9:30 p.m.

Speakers:
Performers:
  • Rwandan electro-pop singer, Iyadede
  • DJ FreizZe (Ahficionados), spinning African hip hop, afrobeat, hip life, kwaito and more

Whiskey A Go-Go

Whiskey isn't just for the gents. Ladies, step your bartender game up with this libation. At approximately 60 calories per shot, you can slip this warm winter wonder into a night out and feel good. Take the cold as an opportunity to sip on whiskey neat or add an ice cube. Some our favorite whiskeys include:
  • Revel Stoke Canadian Spiced Whiskey is at the top of the list for a reason. It's fairly new and not widely distributed but if you can get your hands on it, you'll be pleasantly satisfied.
  • Bushmills Whiskey's latest campaign tactic was tapping into the cool guys from Fools Gold and DFA Records amongst others. The sponsored Bushmills parties popped up and so we gave it a try and scored with Bushmills Black & 16.
  • Crown Royal. Purple velvet bag you kept weed in. 'Nough said.

The New Glam: Predictions for 2011 By Kimberly Padula

By Kimberly Padula
I have channeled  "The New Glam: A 2011 Overview" which I am honored to share with you per Natalie’s request.  Natalie holds it down for a lot of women in pioneering and breaking ground in many unusual, creative realms and is very true to her own nature’s way.
I channeled information in for about two hours one morning and spent the rest of the day writing it.  I am going to share everything I heard as I tranced into this year “2011.”

I offer this information with Love & Light. Take all of it, some of it or take none of it.  It is your choice always. Use your own intuition to discern  what is your truth.  And now onto..

The New Glam

2011 is about living in your truest nature.  It’s you raw, stripped down, and now you get to refine it and shine it up while giving your gifts to the world.  As you work with your purpose ~ it will shape you, style you, kind of like an organic makeover.  Your true Beauty, Strength & Power shining through and working through.

This is very different than just “looking like it”  - this is the real deal.  This is gritty, down & dirty but very sexy nonetheless.  You see the Old Glam had no depth ~ that’s is why you were put through the grinder the past few years.  It wasn’t random, the energy was waking you up to who you are as opposed to “your idea or notion” of who you are.  Now you see the difference, now you get to work with it while feeling it through your fingertips.  There will be a magic quality to your living and purpose now.  A supernatural power if you will.  It’s always been there, women have carried this power for years, centuries, lifetimes. Priestesses, Maidens, Empresses, Queens have made up a long line of amazing gifts from women since the beginning of time.  We are no different ~ We are making History ~ make no mistake about it and each of us carry those women through time.

You will now start to notice that whatever your ethnicity is, it doesn’t matter, because you will see many faces, many cultures, many past lives of the women you were before.  The Beauty in this is that you are like a prism of cultural beauty which you carry within you.  Your treasures are still there, the key is to tap into what resonates with you and what gifts have your brought back to give in this lifetime.  We are all many women, and we are our ancestors. We have been given the gift of great power and wisdom to carry in our own distinct unique way.  The New True “Glam” I call it.

This richness in living will be many added dimensions.  It will open up doors when you align with this power.  We come from many different tribes, find your tribe and you will find your power beyond your belief.  Let me explain, I am Greek and Italian and of course I relate to my cultural background, but not as much as my past lives in India, Portugal, and Morocco.  I can feel, see, taste, and smell the lives I have lived there, and relate much more to these regions I can visually explain my lives there as I see them vividly when I close my eyes and when I dream.

Find your tribe and you will sink into your skin, you will feel a safety, and comfort you have never felt before.  This is THE NEW GLAM.

We all have different wells that we will be pulling and infusing ourselves from.  A word of caution, pay attention to the “well” and what and where  you are gathering from.

Let the universe assist you on who it brings into your life, but be discerning at the same time.  Pay attention to who your bridges are for you.

Pay attention to jealousy and competitiveness for there is no room in such a strong sisterhood for this.  I warn you of this because you will see the people who are in their strength & power in their own right will not be threatened  by anything.  Beware of control and fear working through people.  Always pay attention now.

Connect with like minded people, allow for freedom and space.  Keep your Energy ~ choose where to put and engage your energy.

You cannot “help” people you can “assist” people. Be clear of your purpose & know who you are.

If you are not being honored ~ walk away
Not being heard~ speak up
Not being seen~ step in

Allow yourself to be used for all that you are~ this will not deplete you it will inspire & motivate you.  If the energy coming at you is not pure~ it will be very clear and transparent on what the motive is.  Just relax your vision and your being and you will see very very clearly.

You must now accept responsibility to assist people while staying in your power.  Team up with your past life friends ~ you will know who they are. There is so much magic in this group.

Notice Energy patterns of people that your working, developing, designing with . What kind of pattern is it developing?  Does it ebb and flow or is it choppy and unpredictable, does it feel good, or not so good.  There is a lot more happening energetically than ever before.

Keep doing what your doing for your clients, your people ~ you will find them and they will find you.  Keep your motives pure do not work from insecurity, fear, or scarcity.  Work from your true nature, your treasure, your charms, your gems.  You will see the difference in yourself, people around you, and your cash (kashic) flow.

Desperate is not pretty,  and it is now in the moment, nor is it living in trust & faith. This is a must to exercise faith & trust, and it won’t be easy until you work the muscle more and more.

Make time for quiet reflection to bring you back to your pure intent.  Allow people to find their power~ be patient with them.

Live your story first, add in details later, this will help you in releasing any of your past that you must must let go of now.  It is not you anymore ~nothing about it represents you.

It is important Love wise with whomever is in your life lover, partner, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife that they support you.

Ladies Lotto is a strong group of women that is breaking ground on the planet.  People need to know that you are dedicated to them as well.  Take time to let them know.  Maintain Balance in your Lives.  In other words don’t neglect, include however, whenever you can.

Dwelling: Your Living Spaces. The background of things now come into focus like a solid color to outline what is really there.

Your Spaces Must Match who you are. If it doesn’t match your energetic blueprint ~ get rid of it.  Spaces must be clear and open for you to feel your own energy and not be weighed down and vibrate and reflect back to you who you are to reinforce your energy.  Be brave toss what you don’t need.  We are light bodies now.  Living, eating will feel much lighter and will be much more intense on a psychic, intuitive level.

Below is a Month by Month Overview:  One special note here* You will need to put a “grid” into your life.  Insert the Grid visually to apply Structure which is very important. This Grid is “airbased” not ground based.  We will be grounding our lives in a very unusual way..in that we will be “airbased” this is much more abstract and 3D than ground based.  Do not ground like you have in the past learn how to ground visually and in the air.  I do not know fully why this is,  but I am certain we will know this year.  If this changes, I will let you know.

January:  A finishing up, and beginning quality.  Not so glam as we are just embarking on The New Glam.  Connect Urban with Light now. Have fun while in transition and making necessary changes. Have patience with the messiness of it all.  You will be gaining “traction”  The end of January could get very “social” I recommend still laying low energy wise a bit if you can.

February: Earth Shifts will be strong.  Remember Mother Nature has it’s own intelligence and she loves you just as you love her. Roll with it.  The energy will not be settled~ it will be all over the place. Lots of movement.  I encourage you you to keep living your dream.  Keep putting your message out there through all the movement.

March: New & different than what you thought ~ better actually. A softer energy putting what feels like new roots down. New Life New You, a rebirth if you will.  New strengths, new gifts that will start to notice.

April: Comprehending fulfillment. Getting used to “The New Glam”  Destiny kicks in on the manifestation level and it feels good.

May: Playful yet focused.  Arduous, task oriented , lots of responsibility.  A new level of ascension kicks in.  Consciousness raised even higher.  There will be “hotspots” and lots of heat on the planet.

June: Fully in our hearts! Engagements, weddings, babies, celebrations.  The Manifestation of Love.  Festive, bring this energy into your businesses.

July: People will be tired.  Replenishment needed.  Water issues, air strikes.  Pay attention, and stay out of your fear.

August: Much Richness, Colorful, however there will start to be a trend of confusion and things will get a little Rocky on a global level.

***
September, October, November & December to come at a later date.  These will be very intense months.  I would rather wait on disclosing this information as I have given you so much information today to digest and learn to align with yourselves.

From now on into 2012 you will need to navigate through unsettling/uncertain circumstances.  Chaos will try to reign navigate through around however while remaining fluid in motion steadfast within your being.   We must bring forth all of our power, beauty, strength and intuition.  Stay out of your ego and stay out of fear as they will not serve you in these times.  Keep in Clarity and of Pure Intent it is the safest  and most powerful place to live.  Stay out of angry scenarios as well.

Connect with your wealth and what people want from you.
Your names will change, your style will change, your beings will change.

Stay very involved and very present with yourselves as this will assist you in interacting with others to stay empowered as well.

Follow the currents, yet push out and past the boundaries ~ not against the current.

If people fall short ~ drop them as they will not come through for you.

You cannot save anyone at this time, and you will see a lot of different scenarios go down.  Lost Souls are lost souls be very careful in who you decide to take on personally and professionally.

Use your quiet energy to support the people you love. Use All of your Gifts Now, there is no holding back.  Full Expression, Full Power, Full Realization of who you are, where you are and why you are here.

Enjoy the Ride!

With Love, Light and Intuitive GPS

Tech Tonic: Make Your Own LinkedIn Infographic

After a long hiatus Ladies Lotto's weekly tech post is back and it's got a name; Tech Tonic because we've got the medicine for what ails your tech needs and because a lot of who were are and what we do is fueled by the moves we make using technology. In short tech is helping to define us everyday. There's a big beautiful world filled with gadgets, apps, social media and techie tips and tricks out there and I'm ready to go hard!

This morning the darling social business consultant Rhys Howell (@rhys_isterix) -- and my future husband unbeknown to him -- shared a map of his LinkedIn network with his 36,000+ Twitter followers. As you can see, the young Mr. Howell is a very busy man.

Needless to say, I hopped on the chance to create my own infographic like a little drone. A quick trip to LinkedIn's InMaps allowed me to create and define my own network by logging in to my LinkedIn account. I was able to choose how long the program would have access to my account; as short as one day or until I decide to disable the application.

After InMaps pulled all the data together in a dash of what seemed to be color-coded madness I was able to decipher how I was related to the people denoted by circles and lines. It turns out I have many contacts going way back to my first job out of school as a research analyst at one of the first recognized social networking sites, Bolt.com (please don't mistake that horrid Ning site for the real thing). The bolt of blue below is you guessed it -- my Ladies Lotto affiliations.

Let your fingers do the walking to InMaps and share your very own infographic with Ladies Lotto.

Skins is not child pornography, period.

Parent's Group should be outraged by MTV's Teen Mom not Skins.
Actual 14yr olds with children, no education, no jobs and no future are more concerning to me than a fictional drama. No?

US Skins is tame & the BBC version is 100x better.

I wrote about it here on Red-Magic: BBC Skins

FOX News : Parents Group Petitions Congress, Attorney General to Investigate MTV for Child Pornography in 'Skins' Series

Is MTV a purveyor of kiddie porn? The Parents Television Council wants to find out.

The media watchdog group called on lawmakers and law enforcement officials Thursday to open an investigation regarding possible child pornography and exploitation on the cable network's new series “Skins.”

“Putting aside whether it is socially acceptable, I certainly believe that MTV is unnecessarily tempting fate,” Ian Friedman, an attorney specializing in computer-based sex offenses, told FOX411.

“It is not clear as to whether MTV is in violation of federal or state child pornography laws, but that does not mean that they won’t end up defending themselves somewhere in the United States," Friedman said, noting that attitudes toward nudity and sexuality are far more lax in the show's native England.

According to The New York Times, a series of panicked meetings took place at MTV headquarters in New York on Tuesday, where one executive allegedly even discussed the possibility of criminal charges and jail time. Reportedly, nervous execs forced producers to edit out some of the more explicit content from future episodes.

The Palin Effect

We are elated to hear Representative Gabrielle Giffords is set to leave the hospital and is off to recuperate in Houston at TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation hospital which specializes in brain injuries.

It's been less than 2 weeks from the shooting and the blame game has been boiling. Everyone is ducking and covering, especially Sarah Palin. Her unapologetic video and claims of "blood libel" by her critics have earned her an all-time low approval rating. Her inability to acknowledge any of her actions, or at the very least not make it about her while a congresswoman is hospitalized from gunshot wounds, is an undeniable turn-off.

Lori at Feministing outlines Loughner's misogynist beliefs that women should not be in politics. That includes you, Sarah Palin. This could be a wake up call in the ways that women in politics are not taken seriously and her role in shaping those ideas as a celebrity first, politician second. But instead it's more of the same, taking the idea of being a rabble-rousing "maverick" and pushing people to their limit. The people have spoken and they want less angry rhetoric and more accountability and humanity.

For your viewing pleasure, Jon Stewart helps us process the hypocrisy of Sarah Palin.

Artist Michael Porten's "Homesick" at P.J.S. Exhibitions, NYC

Michael Porten is a young, contemporary artist who creates pseudo pop art. He’s an honorary member of the American Society of Portrait Artists whose work has been featured on the cover of New America Paintings. He graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a MFA in Painting and has received numerous accolades including “Best of Show” at the SCAD Arts Festival.

Homesick investigates the overlapping and synchronizing parts of seemingly disparate experiences and contexts, such as religion, addiction, home, family, painting, theory, science, music, language, computers, and rainbows through what he describes as “amalgamated self-portrait” using oil-on-canvas paintings and sculptures. The works produced for Homesick were inspired by Camus’ thoughts on philosophical suicide, the dichotomy of human desire for understanding, purpose, and knowledge, and the desire to digress, self-destruct, and rest.

Homesick runs now at P.J.S. Exhibitions (238 W. 14th, New York, NY) through February 27th.

Mom, Inc.: Get Organized!

Working moms; we think we're organized but most of us aren't. Do you have a place for everything in your house? What about the nagging tasks that float around in your head on your way to work. . .have a place for those? It doesn't stop. As a mom, you are constantly juggling and in order for you to be successful your juggling must stop. Now. Organization doesn't have to mean a $1500 charge at Hold Everything™. In fact, most of the things moms need to organize aren't necessarily tactile, which makes it even harder. It's the more complex task of sorting out errands, assignments due, work responsibilities and family obligations. You could really make big changes by doing one thing; yep, one thing. Write out "DO IT NOW" on a big piece of paper at work and place it somewhere you are always looking.

If you are a techy-gadget-loving mom like me, your iPad or iPhone pretty much rule the roost, and they also act as great distraction toys for your kid(s). I have tried many apps - such as "Intuition" which is built for moms. It got a thumbs down. I stick to the iCal and a program called Remember The Milk™. Even though I don't drink milk (we are vegan up in here) this program is really essential for working moms. Whether it's synching with your Outlook, Twitter, Gmail, Blackberry, Google or iPhone...you've got yourself beat with the best organizational tool on-the-run. Just start managing your tasks by signing up. It's totally free, efficiently wonderful and you can even sign in with your Google account.

Why is organization so important? Well, if you're this effective when you're head is clouded imagine how great your work and your family life will be once you've got a handle on everything. To be in control is to not be controlled; we all know that mommying is a full-time, doesn't-stop-for-anything role we assume with a smile on our face. However, much of our own life is uncontrollable: our kid(s) can get sick at any point, we can miss a night's sleep or a family vacation may go awry. In all of these situations it's most important to step back and really evaluate what it is you can control. Your newly found organizational skills is just one of your most effective and valued tools.

So what now? You're on the right path. Start by signing up for RTM. You will feel a weight lifted right off your chest as soon as you start typing in and managing your tasks. Next time we will talk about how you can relax without losing a moment of productivity or a moment with your child. Promise.
