If Women Owned Their Money Like Their Sexuality

Do the ladies feel as confident with their money as they do their sexuality? Women are quite comfortable with owning our sexuality but how does that translate to our financial lives? Seems like the ladies are a little behind in the latter... Meaning: our attitudes and actions when it comes to money are closer to our grandmother's. GASP.

"According to a 2007 study on gender differences by Tahira Hira of Iowa State University and Cäzilia Loibl of Ohio State University, women are still less likely to be socialized in financial matters, and they are more likely than men to find investment decisions stressful, difficult and time consuming. The study also found that it often takes a life event, like getting married, to prompt women to save and invest, whereas men were more likely to start investing gradually."

- Maddy Dychtwald in her new book on women's economic power, Influence

That is precisely WHY all of you in NYC should be attending our HOMEBODIES event tomorrow night (June 8th in Brooklyn) - because you should be owing your money like you do your sexuality!! There's no empowerment like independence.

Student Loan Overhaul

How many of you out there have student loans? I'm sure there are several who do. A little info for you who currently have loans, are thinking about taking on loans and/or will have future children who will attend university -
Since the bank-based loan program began in 1965, commercial banks like Sallie Mae and Nelnet have received guaranteed federal subsidies to lend money to students, with the government assuming nearly all the risk. Democrats have long denounced the program, saying it fattened the bottom line for banks at the expense of students and taxpayers.
Ending one of the fiercest lobbying fights in Washington, Congress voted 2 weeks ago to force commercial banks out of the federal student loan market, cutting off billions of dollars in profits in a sweeping restructuring of financial-aid programs and redirecting most of the money to new education initiatives.

- DAVID M. HERSZENHORN and TAMAR LEWIN of The NY TIMES
Read the full article here - it will take 2 minutes and is a great refresher on the issue.

Woman Starts the Debtor's Revolt!

Civil disobedience has been implemented in this woman's revolt against Bank of America. Ann Minch of Red Bluff, California has been using her B of A card for years - she's never missed a payment. But recently, after receiving notice that her APR had increased to a whopping 30%, she took a stand. After attempting to negotiate a lower interest rate, she has refused to pay her balance, claiming there is nothing the financial giant can do about it. Watch the video she made and sent to the bank. She is asking the citizens of the world to join the debt refusniks for a new revolution against the banking giants. Will you join?

Watch it here:

The Huffington Post has a more in-depth article. Check it out if you want more info:
