Samantha Pleet's women's collection combines signature silhouettes and sustainable materials to create a whimsical selection for Fall 2009. The results embody a post-modern Bohemia, inspired by Czech and French New Wave Films. There will be a preview of the Fall 09 collection open to the public at EVANEWYORK located at 355A Bowery on May 9th. Patrons will receive a 15% discount on Fall 09 and Spring 09 collections.
Fabrics include organically dyed plaids and stripes, organic wools, cottons, a flannel wolf-print, and crepe de chine to create rompers derived from trench coats and balloons. Chic silk dresses are inspired by birds and the aurora borealis, and jackets come complete with feathers. Pleet directed a short film of her own this season featuring her Fall 2009 collection. Both the clothes and the film are inspired by and created for an era where anything can happen.
Samantha Pleet debuted her namesake collection for the Fall 2006 season, intertwining elements of dark glamour, and far flung fantasy with a sense of modernity that is distinctly Brooklyn. Her signature rompers, jackets and chic dresses have become best sellers at boutiques across the US and abroad, and she has developed a unique gift for dressing indie bands such as Au Revoir Simone, Apache Beat, Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer, and Holy Hail. For Fall 2008, she introduced Patrick Pleet, a menswear line co-designed with her husband, architect Patrick McGovern. Since October 2008, she has designed an exclusive to Urban Outfitters collection called Rapscallion, which led to curating a pop-up store in Los Angeles that November. She received a 2009 Ecco Domani sustainability design award for her work on the premiere collection of Bodkin. The 27-year-old Philadelphia native also paints, acts, makes films, and plans to start a band if she ever has he time.
