Street Gardens in Montreal

I recently took a trip up to Montreal to visit friends and family. While enjoying the new bixi bike program, I was stopped in my tracks by the sight of mini gardens lining the sidewalks. This made me realize that we don't need backyards or even balconies to plant small gardens, they can be planted just about anywhere there is space (fire escapes, rooftops, vacant lots, and even the small area between the sidewalk and the street as shown in the pictures).

So plant something this summer, ladies! A box of tomatoes on your fire escape, herbs on your windowsill, or flowers on your roof. I guarantee it will change your perspective on green spaces (both in NY and beyond).

Let It Rain!

A super smart gadget has been designed to save our water and actually make something good out of those dull rainy days. It's called RainDrops by Evan.

This product is designed for collecting rainwater from your roof. You just modify the existing gutter system. The rainwater will store in many standard plastic bottles, you can use it water your garden or washing your hands!

The RainDrops system simply allows people to adapt standard plastic bottles to an existing gutter system to collect rainwater. Read more about it here
