Seven Questions with Artist Lacee Swan

Lacee Swan and her model series shirts have been featured on Refinery29.com, Nylonmag.com, and Elle Germany. She's an artist that uses watercolors, which is pretty rad in my book as I was an avid watercolor user back in my Toys 'R Us days. I was fortunate to get some exclusive and intimate 411 coverage on one of the sweetest artists you will ever know.

1) What is your name, age, occupation(s), location(s)?

"Name:Lacee Swan
Age: 31
Occupations: Fashion designer, t-shirt artist, dj, entrepreneur
Location: Brooklyn, New York"

2) Why do you do what you do? What inspires you in general and in your work? What makes you stand out from other artists?
"I think one unique aspect of my art and design is that I come from a technical, corporate background but my art is anything but corporate. As a watercolorist, I'm as carefree and warm spirited as can be -- painting makes me really happy. In the fashion world, yeah I can put together a tech package, but I like to create and embrace design work as it comes. With art, my world is filled with rainbows and hearts and anything especially girly."

3) What are some current projects you are working on?
"I currently have a t-shirt collection called 'Model Series', capturing the new modeling 'it girls' of people's obsession. I will be presenting new girls this September, along with a new series of watercolor paintings capturing fashion and summer in the city."

4) What are you hoping the future will bring for yourself and your career?
"I would love to see my art featured in more periodicals and ad campaigns. With fashion, I love projects that allow that creativity along with the technical skill."

5) What are your favorite places in BK and the general NYC area?
"Well, I love summers in New York. For many people this is when they escape. But for me it means the Endless Summer Taco Truck on Bedford, The Brooklyn Flea, as well as the Hester Street market, bands by the Waterfront, sidecars at Huckleberry Bar, sitting outside La Esquina and adding to my summer wardrobe at Screaming Mimi's."

6) What's it like to be a creative in a city like NYC for you? Do you feel happy, sad, stressed, paranoid, etc.?
"Well never paranoid. I am pretty fearless. The happy moments are always ten times better when you have the not so happy days mixed in. I don't mind the pressure, I love having to give my all again and again."

7) Do you have any advice, life tips, suggestions for the Ladies Lotto community?
"Take chances when you can in your life. It's best to take chances when you're young, but find a way whatever stage in life you are at."

Lacee will also soon be djing a regular night at BLACKOUT Bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn later this month.
Please check out Lacee's work at www.laceeswan.com.

Seven Questions is a Q+A segment I, Susie G, will be doing EXCLUSIVELY for Ladies Lotto. Seven Questions will be featuring female artists, creatives, and the like from various locations worldwide. The goal of this is to introduce creatives to the LL community and the interwebs, and hopefully create potential collaborations, networking opportunities, etc. All interviews are done via e-mail correspondence. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have suggestions for future interviewees @ d j s u s i e g [at] g m a i l [dot] c o m.
