Sprouse Up Your Life

January 09, 2009 — February 28, 2009
18 Wooster Street, New York

Deitch Project's gallery presents Stephen Sprouse's work in a retrospective exhibition

A futuristic view of rock&roll, Rock On Mars shows Sprouse's pop-influenced paintings of iconic and rebellious figures including Sid Vicious and Iggy Pop, which have rarely been viewed before. The exhibition is also showing a selection of the video works that originally accompanied his runway shows, as well as examples of his fabric and furniture design and his fifty most influential fashion looks.

In memoriam to Sprouse's collaboration with Louis Vuitton in 2001, Marc Jacobs has created a new collection for Louis Vuitton. The new limited edition Stephen Sprouse – Louis Vuitton collection are now available in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide.

Stephen Sprouse (1953-2004) was one of the most influential fashion designers of his time and played a key role in the punk rock, wild style graffiti, and street influenced fashion movements that characterized the downtown New York community in the early 1980s. He was one of the first to build on the work of Andy Warhol to create a fusion of art, music and fashion.
