Our guest speaker, Asia One, a world renowned second generation B-boy or more fitting B-girl, has been breaking for 12 years and is the founder of B-boy Summit, No Easy Props Productions and Hip-Hop 101. This community activist has got all the angles covered. Maybe you'd think her discussion would be on Breakdance, it was more about a woman (a single mom to be exact) working hard to bring her projects to fruition. She may have "not made her million yet," nevertheless being able to see all that she has accomplished for her community and the Hip-Hop culture, in which she identifies, she sees the importance of just reaching out and educating the masses.
One of her projects that seemed most dear to her heart is Hip-Hop 101 which offers students' k-6th an opportunity to learn about Hip-Hop culture, dance style of B-boying & B-girling, the art called Hip-Hop writing (blockbuster & bubble style) as well as the history of Hip-Hop. The culmination of the class is a "Battle Jam" where the children perform routines and solos in front of an audience, while showcasing their artworks on display. Let us know the place, day and time cause it sounds like a rockin' good time.
Bgirlism is her motto which she incorporates into all aspects of her doings. Wanna find out more about Asia One and her many Hip-Hop projects, then check-out her main website www.asia-1.org
Lets not forget our meeting was held at De La Barracuda. I must admit, most of us assumed this was a restaurant but it turned out to be a swank clothing store not just for the ladies but for guys as well. They gave the LA Ladies Lotto a 10% discount on top of generously allowing us to take over their patio. Check out their merchandise at http://www.barracudashop.com/
