Hustle, hustle, grind, grind...

Unless you've been under a rock, you've noticed that physical music sales have taken a major nosedive in the past 5 years. The last of the Mohicans, Virgin Megastore closed their doors in Union Square location here in NYC. Clearly, major record labels are hurting. But when a door closes, a window opens. Brothers and sisters are doin' it for themselves. Partnering with smaller firms, and sharing in the profits provides almost complete artistic control and of course, greater profits. Despite the dire forecast from industry bigwigs, this actually seems like a really exciting time for artists. Read more in this really interesting piece on The New York Times.
