Challenging Art

Burning Down the House: Building a Feminist Art Collection is the latest in a series of exhibitions in the temporary exhibition space of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at Brooklyn Museum. Curator Maura Reilly aims to focus artists whose art has challenged gender roles and norms, as well as feminists and those whose work has informed the movement. Most of the paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and videos are working within the historic framework of feminist art.
The diverse forms and ideas displayed in this presentation wants to view that feminist art doesn’t have to limited to a certain look. Burning Down the House: Building a Feminist Art Collection wants to be part of the discussion of feminism and gender related issues.
