I love a good mix.
Mixes of people, mixes of cultures, mixing of minds.
And when it comes to music; mixtures of genres.
IAMSOUND Records has two releases I definitely would recommend. These are a couple of extraordinary girl bands that master the mixing of genres perfectly.
First out is the dub/hip-hop/progressive pop band Telepathe. The music of this Brooklyn based duo is hypnotic, thrilling, and mysterious- feels like psychedelic music for the club kids.
FADER magazine described the Telepathe as a woman-meets-machine mishmash band.
The interplay between the voices of singers Melissa and Busy is captivating and creates a distinctive characteristic for their music. Their EP “Chrome’s On It” - is out October 14 and feature remixes by all-stars like Mad Decent, The Mae Shi, Free Blood (ex-!!!), Frankmusik and Bobby Evans. Telepathe is going out on tour with beat master Diplo accompanied by Abe Vigoda and Boy 8-Bit. The guaranteed dance fest kicks off on October 16 at Webster Hall in New York City.
The second band I want to give a shout out to is a pop/italo disco/disco house act called Little Boots Music from London, UK. Little Boots is the solo project of London’s Victoria Hesketh, former lead singer of Dead Disco. She is releasing her American debut, the Arecibo EP, in November through IAMSOUND. Danceable beats combined with Hesketh’s sweet and sexy voice has been getting her the buzz from music blogs from all over. Adding the fact that Joe Goddard of Hot Chip and Greg Kurstin of Bird And The Bee did the production definitely puts this lady in the spotlight of new acts to keep an eye on. Little Boots Music is featured in this months FADER, Spin magazine and Dazed & Confused. Little Boot Music is touring in UK and will be hitting L.A. playing a DJ set with Digitalism September 13 at Nocturne Festival.
Speaking of Hot Chip, check out Little Boot’s fantastic, but slightly odd, cover on Ready for the floor here
