Self-Starting Ladies

I have watched many ladies become successful entrepreneurs. I am always inspired by the initiative taken to start and the confidence needed to persevere. Spotlight on two companies started by three inspiring ladies.

Joanna Alberti is the creator and illustrator of philoSophie's, a line of birthday cards, thank you notes, stationary and other items, featuring a modern lady named Sophie who imparts humorous and motivating thoughts on life, friendship, love and the power of positive thinking. Sophie isn’t real, but her can-do attitude about life speaks to women striving to reach their personal best while keeping their sense of humor and dignity intact. Joanna has been rated by BusinessWeek as one of the top five entrepreneurs under 25 and featured in a CNN segment “Young People Who Rock”.

When Fernanda Pinzon, and her business partner Aliette, became new moms they had a hard time finding eco-friendly products for their babies. They found that a lot of products were marketed as "green" but didn't really have the credentials to boot. So they started New Born Mom, an online boutique with meticulously-selected baby products that contain natural, organic and earth-friendly materials. Their office uses recycled supplies and a portion of their sales are donated to organizations that support green causes. Mention "Ladies Lotto" and receive a 10% discount on newbornmom.com.
