Paris will receive a shot in the arm this May with the inauguration of the buoyant new VAN DER STEGEN Gallery and it's opening reception of Animalia #1. With sophisticated new handling of traditional mediums, the artists Claude Bernon, Sr Labo, and Melissa Steckbauer provide discourse on the contemporary issue of hybridization. Sr Labo's psychological work uses wax to represent the melding of animal and human bodies, Claude Bernon wanders through the forests of France in search of creatures from Russian fairy tales, and Melissa Steckbauer paints characters seeking identity, sexual freedom, and the fulfillment of their sexual fantasies. Please join us for the opening reception May 16 from 6-9pm: the exhibition runs from May 16-June 20th, 2008.
